Effective Home Care
1st: Floss
Floss first to break up bacteria, then brush it away. Floss at least once every day as 90% of infection occurs between your teeth.
- Wrap floss around your middle fingers and hold it with your forefinger and thumb.
- Form a “C” shape around the tooth, bringing the floss down to the gumline.
- Move it up and down several times for thorough cleaning.
2nd: Brush
Brush 2-3 times daily, with nighttime brushing being the most important.
- Aim the toothbrush at a 45° angle toward the gumline.
- Clean each tooth slowly and carefully, one at a time.
- Use small circular motions when brushing.
- Brush for at least two minutes.
- Use cavity protection toothpaste (e.g., Crest, Colgate, or Aquafresh). Avoid whitening or tartar control toothpaste, as these may cause sensitivity.
- Only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste is needed.
- Don’t forget to brush your tongue to remove bacteria that cause bad breath.
3rd: Mouthwash
Mouthwash can freshen breath but does not remove plaque.
- Use only alcohol-free mouthwash, as alcohol-based ones can cause dry mouth.
